As an Industry Training Board and Sector Skills Council the Construction Industry Training Board`s (CITB) role is to encourage the adequate training of those employed or intending to be employed in the construction industry and to improve the skills and productivity of the industry. They provide advice, courses and grants for training to help construction companies improve their skills and to increase their competitive edge.
The Site Safety Plus Scheme includes Health and Safety awareness (HASA) Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) and provides the building, Civil Engineering and Allied Industries with a framework for Training and Career Development.
The Scheme recognises a natural progression, from someone new to the industry through to those responsible for managing construction work. Starting with a Health and Safety awareness day to prepare for the online Health and Safety Test, and progressing to an intermediate level for those about to have supervisory responsibilities (SSSTS). There is then and an advanced level for those with management responsibilities (SMSTS)

CITB - HSA - Health and Safety Awareness Course
This CITB Health and Safety Awareness course provides a practical summary of Health and Safety, welfare and environmental issues, and identifying individual responsibilities for looking after themselves and others, what the employer’s duties are and what should be done if they think anyone’s health and safety is being put at risk. It also highlights the importance of accident and near miss reporting. All courses are open courses.
CITB - SSSTS - Site Supervisors Safely Training Scheme Course
This CITB Site Supervisors Safely Training Scheme Course is intended for those with supervisory responsibilities, in the building, construction and civil engineering industries. It highlights the need for adequate communication, to sustain a health and safety culture among the workforce as well as their legal responsibilities and the requirement to promote Health and Safety, to supervise effectively.
CITB - SSSTS/Refresher - Site Supervisors Safely Training Scheme - Refresher Course
This CITB Site Supervisors Safely Training Scheme Refresher Course is intended for those who already successfully completed the CITB Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme Course, within the last 5 years and have supervisory responsibilities.in the building, construction and civil engineering industries.. It highlights the need for adequate communication, to sustain a health and safety culture among the workforce.
CITB - SMSTS - Site Management Safety Training Scheme Course
This CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme course covers all relevant legislation and other aspects which are applicable to Site Managers working in the building, construction and civil engineering industries. It highlights the need for risk assessment in the workplace, the implementation of the necessary control measures and adequate communication to sustain a health and safety culture among the workforce. All courses are open to those wishing to be accredited in Site Management.
